I use Firefox for almost all web browsing including Oracle Apps. My browser automatically updated from 3.5.1 to 3.5.2 and as soon as it was updated, I could not open Oracle Applications window because JInitiator would crash as soon as the Oracle forms would start loading. This happened continuously until I was forced to install 3.5.1 again from Mozilla's website. Today, my browser automatically updated AGAIN after I have repeatedly chosen not to upgrade to the new version. There is a bug open with Mozilla but I have a work around to fix this issue.

I found this after searching for a solution to the Oracle Apps crashing:

"I was getting this same error, but copying jvm.dll to the C:\Program Files\Oracle\JInitiator 1.3.1.30\bin\hotspot directory also fixed the error for me. I had to use the dll from C:\Program Files\Java\jre1.6.0_07\bin\client folder though. Using the latest java version of jvm.dll in the C:\Program Files\Java\jre6\bin\client directory caused a crash of IE8."

Your versions of each might vary, as mine did.

First, rename the jvm.dll file in the "C:\Program Files\Oracle\JInitiator 1.3.1.26\bin\hotspot\" to jvm.dll.OLD Your JInitiator version might be different. If there are multiple, use the newest one.

Next I copied "C:\Program Files\Java\jre1.6.0_05\bin\client\jvm.dll" to "C:\Program Files\Oracle\JInitiator 1.3.1.26\bin\hotspot\jvm.dll" again, your JRE version might be different. If there are multiple, use the newest one.

*Update 9/15/2009 from Sridevi Pidisetti
Users have reported that copying the jvm.dll file from earlier versions of Oracle JInitiator also solves this error. For example copy the file from C:\Program Files\Oracle\JInitiator 1.3.1.21\bin\hotspot\jvm.dll to C:\Program Files\Oracle\JInitiator 1.3.1.26\bin\hotspot\jvm.dll

I would post the file but I don't know what copyright restrictions are in place and also don't want to be responsible if you run into problems. Make sure you create backups for any file you overwrite.

This solved the error for many users and it worked for me.

This problem also affects Mozilla Firefox 3.5.3. Try to workarounds listed above as they have resolved the problem in both 3.5.2 and 3.5.3. If you have alternate solutions that worked, please email me at webmaster@oracle-developer.com

I had the same problem with Firefox 3.5.5 and Jinitiator 1.3.1.28 and was able to solve it by copying the jvm.dll from C:\Program Files\Java\jre1.6.0_07\bin\client. I initially tried to copy it from C:\Program Files\Java\jre6\bin\client which didn't work.
